Sun release early access for Java 6 update 12
Sun have released an early access version of the upcoming Java 6 update 12. The early access release lifts the lid on two new features, 64-bit browser plug-in support and Windows 2008 support.
The 64-bit browser plug-in support fixes an outstanding issue that had forced 64-bit operating system users to use a 32-bit browser if they wanted to use Java, an issue which had caused some consternation amongst users and developers. Users will still need to install 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Java platform if they want to switch between 32-bit and 64-bit supporting browsers. Also, the 64-bit browser support is only available on Windows and Linux as there is no 64-bit build of Firefox on Solaris yet.
Full details of the Java 6 update 12 early access edition are available on Java.net.
