Presto: Faster booting with Linux

Source: prestomypc.com Xandros is now offering it's Presto quick-boot Linux. Presto is a stripped down Linux distribution installed as a second boot option to Windows on a PC and once chosen Presto should boot in a matter of seconds. Presto includes Firefox, Skype, an email client, an instant messenger and other applications, allowing users to get online quickly.

Presto is a fairly standard Linux distribution and there is no guarantee that all hardware will be supported. It's also debatable if booting to Presto is faster than booting to a suspended Windows session, but will likely vary depending on the notebook it is installed on.

A single computer perpetual licence for Presto can be purchased for $19.95 over the internet and a seven day trial is available. The Presto application store offers additional downloadable applications such as GIMP, Adobe Reader, a Java 6 run time, games and several multimedia applications.
