Perl 6 development: Parrot 2.0.0 released
The Perl 6 developers have announced the release of version 2.0.0 of the Parrot virtual machine, code named "Inevitable", on which the Rakudo implementation of Perl 6 will run. Parrot, unlike Perl 5, keeps compiler and runtime separate and it also supports other dynamic languages.
The developers note that the Context and CallSignature PMCs (PolyMorphic Containers) have been merged into CallContext and that Context PMCs now support attribute-based introspection. In addition to performance and packaging improvements, the latest 2.0.0 release also features new deprecations and better GC accuracy.
More details about the release can be found in the Parrot 2.0.0 announcement. Parrot 2.0.0 is available to download and documenation is provided. Parrot is released under version 2 of the Artistic License. The next release of Parrot is scheduled for the 16th of February, 2010.
