Open data gets Cabinet Office support
Driven by the Rewired State, MySociety, Show Us a Better Way and the Power Of Information Task Force initiatives, the Cabinet Office has announced, by way of a posting on the Digital Engagement Blog, that it is developing a platform for developers to cooperate in making government and public information accessible and useful.
The site, which is currently in early preview for interested developers, brings together a thousand existing data sets from several departments, some available "for the first time in reusable form". Access to the site, currently described as a "work in progress", is available on request. The blog posting invites interested developers to sign up to a Google Group created for discussion of the new platform.
