Node.js rolls into Engine Yard

Engine Yard, the Ruby on Rails and PHP platform-as-a-service (PaaS) company, has announced that it is enabling early access to new Node.js support. Node.js is the popular event-driven, JavaScript-based web application framework that uses the V8 JavaScript engine from Google's Chrome to provide just-in-time compiled performance. Engine Yard has created a new Labs programme which will actively take feedback on features such as this – and other new features in the future – which are not officially supported and "may or may not become supported as part of Engine Yard products".

Deploying a simple Node.js application with Engine Yard

Deploying a Node.js application to Engine Yard's PaaS involves creating a git repository for the code, and then adding the URL for that repository on the Engine Yard dashboard. A screencast steps through the process of creating an application; more details are available in the announcement. The Node.js functionality is available to all Engine Yard users including those on a free trial.
