MySQL client HeidiSQL 7 now also talks Microsoft SQL Server

An update to HeidiSQL, the Windows based client for MySQL and MariaDB, has been announced. This brings basic support for talking to Microsoft SQL Server systems to the database management application. The SQL Server support includes the ability to execute queries, edit grid data and do a data-only export.

HeidiSQL allows administrators to connect to multiple database servers and create and edit tables, views, stored procedures and triggers, create "nice" SQL exports, transfer directly from one server to another, bulk edit tables, manage user privileges and more. Source: HeidiSQL The new HeidiSQL 7 also adds support for SSL settings, account resource limits and suggested random passwords to its user manager. The pluggable authentication of MySQL 5.5.7 and MariaDB 5.2 is also now supported. The grid editor has also been improved with support for binary primary keys and exporting the grid now has it's own dialogue.

Queries are threaded now, stopping long running queries from blocking the application, though there is a button to stop queries that run for too long. MariaDB and Percona Server databases are now represented with appropriate icons and the developers have addressed many minor problems. Among those are fixes for Wine usage; HeidiSQL is a Windows only application but the developers support use on Linux using Wine.

HeidiSQL 7 is available to download from the project's stable and nightly download page, as a Windows executable or as source. The program is licensed under the GPLv2.
