Ingres Database 9.3 released

Ingress has announced the release of version 9.3 of their flagship open source database application. According to the Ingress press release, the latest version of Ingres Database "takes aim" at its competitors with its support for easy migration from MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase.

The newly introduced "identity columns" generate new values from a system defined SEQUENCE, as defined in the SQL standard. Sequence's generate monotonically increasing values for a column, but Ingres has also included support for unordered sequences which make it simpler to INSERT and DELETE rows in a table. Stored procedures that return result sets can now be used in the FROM of a SELECT statement. The LIKE predicate has been extended to support LONG VARCHAR and LONG NVARCHAR data. The ODBC driver now supports scrollable cursors, for both reading and writing data.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes PDF . So far only the 32-bit Windows version of Ingres Database 9.3 is available to download. Ingress Database 9.3 Community Edition is released under version 2 of the GNU Genral Public License (GPLv2).
