ACM's Linux research edition free online
The ACM – Association of Computing Machinery – has made the July 2008 edition of its SIGOPS Operating System Review available online for free. The edition, Research and developments in the Linux kernel, covers a wide range of Linux-oriented papers.
Among those papers are discussions of the processes behind the development of the Linux kernel, incorporating Plan 9 like authentication into Linux, fairness in the Linux scheduler, fast I/O with PipeFS, Cubic high speed TCP/IP and standardised virtual I/O with VirtIO.
Normally, ACM papers are available on a subscription basis, but given the subject matter, the ACM has released this edition for free. Co-editor of this edition, Eric Van Hensbergen, said "A primary motivation behind this special-topic OSR issue was to help bridge a gap that currently exists between the kernel community and the academic OS research community".
The twelve papers can be found on the ACM Portal.
